The Bloke’s Guide To Picking Perfumes

Posted on May 26th, 2008 in Cosmetics by Admin

Choosing a perfume can be a tricky decision. Especially if you are trying to buy for a loved one and you have absolutely no idea where to start. If like me you also lack any kind of natural ability at making these decisions then this article is designed to benefit you. I wanted to buy my wife a gift that showed her how sensitive and caring I am and forever remind her what a fantastic choice of lover I am and prove categorically that her father was wrong when he called me an idle waste of space that will never amount to anything.

Sadly on many occasions I have made horrible mistakes with my choices and as a result there have been numerous occasions where my loving partner has had to return to the shop receipt in hand to request something she would really like. So I have taken the pain of rejection in my stride and decided to find out exactly how to go about picking a perfume that will win my fair lady’s heart.

Search online

A good search for anything should always begin online. The information superhighway is exactly that is you know how to use it. Research will make your ultimate decision much easier and there are hundreds of resources on the net that are designed to help you. It is of course something that you must be slightly wary of. A great deal of the perfume reviews are written by the marketing company that are promoting the perfume so be sure to find a site that you feel you can trust.

Good ones to look at are those sites that sell numerous different perfumes. These are usually owned by perfume enthusiasts that write keenly about their products. Ordinarily they will write impartially about the perfumes that they sell. Reading reviews by customers is another great way of finding out a bit more about a perfume and getting a true reflection of whether or not it is a good one. Try and read as many different reviews from as many different sources as possible that way you are more likely to get a complete picture.

Translate the product descriptions

In all fairness to the marketing men at the perfume companies it is very difficult to explain in writing what a scent smells like. Nevertheless there is a great deal of over flamboyant and in some cases ludicrous language used to describe the products that are on sale. Interpreting these uses of language can be as difficult as choosing a perfume. Some of the grandiloquent people that write the blurb for the latest perfumes describe them in flowery terms that give you an indication of who the perfume is aimed at.

If it is described as fresh and energetic it is likely to be aimed at young people and perfumes for young people tend to be described in fruity or floral terms. This is probably worth avoiding if you are buying for a more mature woman. The latest phrase from Christina aguillera was described as classy and provocative and was said to empower the women that wore it so that they could achieve greater levels of femininity and sexiness.

These words are clearly aimed at women that want to exercise their feminine charms and entice men into their web of seduction. If this is not how you would describe your loved one perfumes with these types of description should probably be avoided.

Tips for Better Mineral Makeup Application

Posted on May 25th, 2008 in Cosmetics by Admin

If a friend were to ask me what was the best makeup on the market today, without a doubt I would answer that mineral makeup is it. There is no comparison between mineral makeup and traditional makeup. Mineral makeup is the hands down winner.

Just a few short years ago mineral makeup started to spread like wildfire on a hot California day. It offers many things and a level of coverage not available until now. In this article we will pass on some of the best tips and techniques that although they will need practice they will increase your skill in the application of this makeup that may seem difficult at first but gets easier. If the look of an unblemished complexion is your goal, read on.

Often the retail counters, stores and even online mineral makeup stores will provide some training in the form of a video, written instruction or one-on-one training. This basic instruction is important and needs to be studied as it is the foundation for your mineral makeup education. Be sure you pay special attention and don’t be afraid to ask questions of the instructor.

Brushes are your Essential Tools

No matter whether you are applying foundation or concealer you will need a brush and for each product there is a different type.

There are several kinds of brushes necessary to achieve maximal results with mineral makeup and the foundation brush is central to that success. The foundation brush is sometimes called the Kabuki brush. Although other brushes are similar to the Kabuki it has a shorter handle and stiffer bristles. The importance of the shorter stiffer brush comes into play when practicing the buffing motions necessary for full coverage.

The level of conceler needed for coverage is what determines if a brush is used or finger tips. Your fingers can be used if more coverage is needed and a consealer brush is used if less coverage is needed and for under the eyes if dark circles do not need to be hidden. For blemishes a lip brush can be used to concentrate the consealer as it has short bristles and has a slight taper.

It is important to understand that the brush is at least as responsible for how your mineral makeup looks as is the mineral makeup itself. Sometimes you can skimp a little on makeup quality but it is advisable to never go for the lower quality brush. Learn to tell the difference and find the brushes that work best for you by testing them against the same makeup on different sides of your face.

Practice Makes the Technique Perfect

As emphasized earlier mineral makeup is different than traditional makeup and the mineral makeup is far less translucent than what you may be accustomed to with loose power. Caution should be exercised when using it and you should build in lighter stages for the perfect look for you.

As with any education one lesson builds upon another and this lesson is no different. It is slightly more advanced than the lesson you probably got when you purchased your mineral makeup to begin with. Soon you will be applying flawlessly and your friends will be asking you for tips too.

* Start with a small bit of the power in a tissue. Remember a little goes a long way when applying mineral makeup.
* As you brush the power with your Kabuki brush you will pick up the power and it will not be visible but is saturated.
* Start near the center of your head and work outward in a whisking motion to cover all the way to the edge of your face.
* You will keep going using this method until your entire face is covered being careful not to use too much power as stated earlier.

If you follow carefully the result will, with practice, be a near perfect complexion you wanted and as promised by mineral makeup.

Here are my suggestions for practicing with mineral makeup. You will find if you practice them you will get really good.

Makeup Tips for Decreasing Facial Oil Shine

Posted on May 22nd, 2008 in Cosmetics by riporty

Do you have an oily complexion? Well, if you do then it can be difficult at times to control the shine of your face caused by excess oil. If you are out in the sun a lot, this may make things even more difficult. However, if this is your situation, do not worry because there are a couple of makeup and cosmetic solutions that you can incorporate into your daily skincare regime to assist you with shine control.

Mineral Makeup

The first thing you may want to consider doing is making use of light and natural makeup. One type that is becoming more and more popular by the minute is mineral makeup. Because mineral makeup is derivative of natural ingredients, it is said to be healthy for your skin. Not only does this type of makeup refrain from clogging your pores, it can very possibly help improve your overall complexion.

For shine control purposes, mineral makeup is made up of very finely crushed powder. This fine powder is very dry and does a great job of absorbing facial oil, thus decreasing shine and the look of an oily complexion very significantly.

However, keep in mind that just because the makeup absorbs excess oil does not mean that it is not there. No, the oil is still there but it is just disguised and hidden very well. So, how do you rid your face of excess oils without removing the makeup and cosmetics you applied in the process?

Oil Blotting Cosmetic Tissues

The solution to that problem is oil blotting cosmetic tissues. These are non pore clogging tissues that, when patted on your face, absorbs oils without removing your makeup. Just about every well-known cosmetic brand company produces a type of these tissues. They are a bit pricey, though, ranging from around $3-12 for around 50-150 2 inch by 3 inch small squares of oil-blotting tissue.

But, if you are anything like me, you will not be so keen to spend the extra money for tissue paper. Not to worry, because there is another solution to the high cost of these tissues.

My Best Kept Makeup Tip Secret

My best kept secret is…Toilet cover sanitizers! I bet you did not expect that one, huh? Well, they are made of the same fundamental things that pricey oil blotting tissues are made of minus the fancy name and company logo…Tissue paper! Best of all, you can get these for free in most public restrooms.

So while you are touching up your mineral makeup in a public restroom, go and grab a few toilet cover sanitizers. You can use some then, and put the rest in your purse for later!

Helpful Beauty Guides On Cosmetics

Posted on May 20th, 2008 in Cosmetics by Admin

Many women will visit a department store to buy cosmetics just so they can take advantage of the cosmetics beauty guides that are employed there. Beauty consultants are present that represent many beauty product manufacturers and they are willing to give beauty guide advice while customers sit in a chair and try out the products that are sold under a particular brand. The intent of these beauty treatments is to sell the product to the customer while being guided to lasting beauty at the same time.

The internet is filled with beauty product retail sites that provide an enormous amount of information on the use of all beauty products sold in the store. Some of the cosmetics beauty guides might inspire consumers to purchase a certain style of mascara that promise to lengthen lashes considerably and make the lashes thicker at the same time. A beauty consultant might recommend a change in mascara color to bring out the eye color of the customer, who happens to have dark blue eyes.

The beauty product guides will show consumers how to hold the mascara applicator to achieve a certain curve or angle on the lashes after the product has been applied. Without these guides in place, some users would not use buy it out of fear of not using it right. Being able to use the product first will be the major selling point of any cosmetics applications and the cosmetics beauty guides that provide hands-on training are definitely considered a plus by paying customers.

Some beauty product companies go all out when cosmetics beauty guides are introduced to the customer. Many land-based retailers will feature makeup artists in the store on a certain day to promote a new brand of cosmetics. The makeup artist will change the appearance of several people at the same time to show the dramatic changes in physical appearance that are possible with the continual use of a certain beauty product. All models will look marvelous but dramatically different when the presentation is over and customers will be more inclined to buy the product then.

Some cosmetics beauty guides will encourage women to develop their own beauty style. Cosmetics counters will be littered with various cosmetics samplers that customers can dabble with while staring into a large mirror that is provided. Some customers find that lip gloss looks better on their skin than lipstick does and some might find that certain bronzers or blushers give their appearance a totally different look. Some department store cosmetics representatives will hand out samples of cosmetics for customers to experiment with at home.

Some women rely on the advice of their Mother when learning to apply cosmetics. The cosmetics beauty guides might be learned early in life when the child watches a parent apply cosmetics while getting dressed to go to work. A small child will be mesmerized by the color combinations that are used on the eyelids, and the creamy texture of the lipstick that makes Mom want to kiss a cheek after applying it every morning. Blotting lipstick is one of the first cosmetics beauty rituals that a little girl will remember and look forward to experiencing every morning.

Total Skin Care - Not Just For Beauty Anymore

Posted on April 18th, 2008 in Cosmetics by Admin

It is quite normal to expect people to want to look attractive and this might explain why anti-aging skin and beauty care products are so successful; this is due primarily to the fact we are all living longer and want to continue looking younger as we mature and age. This is done using skin and beauty care products that encourage the growth of the protein collagen which happens to be the main source of the protein used in the connective tissue of skin; collagen is plentiful, it makes up about a quarter of the total protein content of structural protein found in skin.

This area of anti-aging treatments is connected to another group of products that help people to look youthful; called antioxidants, they help flush out deadly toxins from the body and help reduce the signs of aging.

Although the benefits of vitamin C (an anti-oxidant) are well documented, it is still debated as to what our daily amount should really be. Skin care treatments that are based on vitamin C, pose the problem of becoming oxidized themselves as they come into contact with air during their usage.

More stable skin care treatments are now available that are almost as efficient and actually cost less to manufacture. Unfortunately the anti-oxidant products used to replace vitamin C are not as effective but as vitamin E and lipoic acid can both have the same effect; this is not too much of a problem.

Vitamin E is a fat-soluble antioxidant and is found in human blood; there is some evidence to show it helps prevent many diseases including cancer. On the other hand, lipoic acid or alpha-lipoic acid is necessary for producing energy which keeps us alive; it is also known to fight the signs of aging very effectively by repairing skin damage caused by the aging process.

Another group of product s used to reduce the visible signs of aging are phytochemicals which are compounds extracted from various plants and used in many anti-aging skin and beauty care products. Another benefit of phytochemicals, like those of alpha-lipoic acid, is their ability to reduce the prevalence of certain cancers; examples of these are:

*Prostate Cancer
*Breast Cancer
*Colon Cancer

These are some of the most common (and increasingly so) cancers in the world today. It has also been discovered that there are anti-aging benefits to vitamins B5, B6 and B12.

The field of anti-aging skin and beauty care products is vast and needs a great deal more research. While a great deal has been learned about this subject, it is only the tip of the iceberg; however, research is moving forward at a fast pace and it is only a matter of time before a new generation of products come to market.

There may be still be many challenges to overcome but in time scientists believe they will succeed in producing more effective anti-aging skin care products that are less expensive and more widely available.

It may be time to learn that not every synthetic anti-aging product is going to work; man-made products may never replace those that are naturally available! Regular sleep patterns, exercise, a good healthy diet and less stress will all contribute to reducing the signs of overall aging, for instance!
